Join me Saturday at Borders

Greetings:

My dear friend Ronald Chapman, author of Seeing True: Ninety Contemplations in Ninety Days, will be doing a book signing on Saturday May 17th at 4pm at the Aurora Borders Books and Music located at 6606 S. Parker Road. I will be attending the book signing and would love to meet you. If you are in the area please stop by and say hello.

Seeing True: Ninety Contemplations in Ninety Days

May 17, 2008 4:00 PM

Aurora - Parker - Borders
6606 S. Parker Road
Aurora, CO 80016

An elegantly crafted set of meditation-like vignettes based on the experiences of the author and others. Presented in a workbook format, they allow the reader to respond to simple but thought-provoking questions, the answers to which can provide insights of life changing magnitude. The contemplations, now available from Ozark Mountain Publishing, examine spiritual themes with open mindedness and curiosity to facilitate one's ability to see with new eyes.

The teleseminar I did with Ronald last week was amazing. Ron talked in detail about how "Seeing True" can make the biggest difference in your life and how life is created by our perceptions, what we think about what happened and not necessarily what happened. If you missed the call and you are a member of 365 Days of Coaching you can go to the Members Only area and listen to the recording. One of the benefits of being a member of 365 Days of Coaching is that you receive access to the recordings of all the teleseminars that I do. If you are not a member you should be. Time for s Spring Break

Greetings:

All the children may be back in school with Spring Break only a memory, but it isn't too late to take your own spring break. Springtime is a wonderful time just to enjoy. Taking a spring break doesn't mean that you have to go to the beach for a week, although that isn't a bad idea. What it does mean is that you take some time to enjoy, relax, and rejuvenate.

When I left my corporate job, I took spring off before starting my own business. Since I had time, I would go outside and sit with my dog and enjoy the day. I noticed that there seemed to be an increase in the butterfly population and I wondered what created that. I mentioned my observation to a friend. She laughed and said, "There hasn't been an increase in the butterfly population. You just haven't been outside during spring in years!" She was right. I had not taken a break during spring since I was a teenager.

You can take a mini spring break during the day. Perhaps you could park a little further from the office and walk a few blocks into work and enjoy the wonderful weather. Instead of eating lunch inside, eat at an outside cafe or bring your lunch and have a picnic. Take the kids to the park in the evening or take a walk through your neighborhood. There are so many simple ways to take a mini spring break that will renew and rejuvenate you.

Happy May

Greetings:

The first day of May brought snow in Denver, which didn't make it seem like Spring has Sprung. The weather like life is unpredictable. It can change on a dime!

Speaking of change my favorite radio station, 104.3 FM Smooth Jazz has changed to a Sports Talk station. The Jazz station can still be heard on HD Radio, something I am not that familiar with. Again just a sign that change happens and at a rapid speed.

However some things are constant and one of those things is the Holiday's that each month brings. I love to look at all the special days each month offers for unlimited celebration. Not that you need to have a reason but sometimes it is just fun to have a quirky holiday to get the fun rolling.

National Asparagus Month -
"Many vegetables sprout in May. One of these healthful treats is asparagus. And wouldn't you know it? May is national asparagus month." To learn all you want to know about Asparagus check out the website Georgia Faces sponsored by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. There is a great Asparagus article by student writer Morgan Roan.

My favorite way to eat asparagus? I have to tell you it is right out of the can. I can open up a can of asparagus and just snack on it. If it is fresh I prefer that it is drizzled with olive oil and seasoned with salt and then grilled. As Alton Brown would say, "That's Good Eats."

National Salad Month! Okay no surprise this Holiday is sponsored by the Association for Dressings & Sauces! I love salad and I would highly recommend celebrating National Salad Month at Sweet Tomatoes, my favorite salad bar restaurant.

When eating Salad watch the dressing and sauces you put on it (I know not with keeping with the sponsors of the holiday). You can take a perfectly healthy meal and jack up the calories by drowning it is dressing. I like to use Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil. Yummo!

For information on how to create a well dressed salad visit the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension in Lancaster County's website Food Reflections.

National Strawberry Month - Strawberries are my favorite fruit. I will be celebrating this holiday all month long!

I have to admit that I have been known to pick out all the freeze dried strawberries out of my husbands morning cereal! However when I am not robbing my husband's cereal box my next favorite thing to do is make Strawberry Shortcake. My favorite shortcake recipe is from my Grandma Glotzbach. Although I am not sure what Grandma would think about me sharing her recipe with the world, but hey, it is the Holiday!

Shortcake

Mix together:

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar

Cut in:

1/2 cup shortening

Combine:

6 tablespoons milk
1 egg well beaten

Add:

Liquid to dry ingredients and mix only until all flour is dampened. Kneed gently on floured surface for a few seconds. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness cut into rounds. Brush lightly with melted butter. Place in pairs, buttered sides together on ungreased baking sheet and bake in 375 degree oven for 12 minutes. Remove top half, place on plate, add strawberries. You can also bake as single cakes if you like them crusty. (this is how I bake them)

National Tavern Month - "This will be the 55nd consecutive year in which National Tavern Month has been celebrated" Hey have a Strawberry Daiquiri at your favorite Tavern and you can celebrate two holiday's at once!

May is also The Month of Peace. Years ago I discovered the Peace Pilgrim, an amazing woman and an inspiration.

"From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to "remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food." In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world:

"This is the way of peace: overcome evil with good,
and falsehood with truth, and hatred with love."

Peace Pilgrim, An American Sage"

For more information about Peace Pilgrim go to the website and watch the video. It is just amazing what she did in her life!

Lots to celebrate this month.

Website Check-up

Greetings:

Recently I featured Alyson Stanfield and her book "I'd Rather Be In The Studio" on the blog. Alyson was doing a blog tour and I volunteered to be one of the stops. I have had people ask me about that because Alyson's book is for Artist and that isn't really my target market. Very true, it isn't. However Alyson's book isn't just for artiest (although I know that is Alyson's target market). It is for anyone that wants to market themselves and their business. Besides if you only read books from your industry you are going to get the same information over and over. Dan Kennedy, the marketing guru, recommends reading books, articles and networking with people outside of your industry to get a fresh viewpoint and new ideas. I am not an artist, but I am on my second read of Alyson's book. The first time I read it was to get the big overview. Now I am reading it for the fine points and I am making a list of things to do.

Alyson publishes one of the best E-zine's on the Internet, in my humble opinion, and today's was really great. It is a fine example of the type of information she shares in her book that can relate to anyone in business. I recently did a major revamping of my website www.coachlee.com. As Alyson suggested in her e-zine I have been so busy doing everything else that coachlee.com got ignored. Using Alyson's suggestions I went through the website and made sure that everything that needs to be there is.

Below is a copy of Alyson's e-zine. I hope you will consider subscribing to it as well as getting a copy of her book, which is a Number One Best Seller on Amazon.com. You might already know everything Alyson talks about, but hearing it in a different way from a different perspective might get your creativity and action muscle in gear to actually do something. Now that would be great wouldn't it!

Perform a Web Site Checkup

Your poor Web site. You got so caught up in blogging, newsletters, and the latest technology, that your Web site has been neglected. Or maybe you're so happy you finally got it online that you forgot about it for the last two years. When is the last time it was updated?

Spend some time this week making sure everything is working on your site. Here's a list to get you started.

►Is your name prominent on every page?

►Are there titles, media, dimensions, and photo credits below each of your images? This isn't necessary for thumbnails, but is critical for enlarged photos. And if your photos open in a new window, is your name there as well?

►Is your News page current? And does your About or Bio page reflect your latest accomplishments?

►Is there a privacy policy next to any sign-up form you have for guests? See page 195 of I'd Rather Be in the Studio! for a sample.

►Is there more than one way to get a hold of you? Remember that email is not 100% reliable.

►Is there enough content? Not Flash content (which is an image), but searchable text so that the search engines can find you?

►Do you have any dead links?

►Do you have a photo of yourself? See this newsletter:
http://artbizcoach.com/dothis/2008/actionshots.html

►Is it easy for people to purchase from you? I recently discovered that people were having a hard time finding some of my products. A new Products page is in the works!

►Do you have a major link to your blog so that people don't have to search for it? Speaking of blogs, check back next week when I give you a checkup for your blog.

The Five Keys to Success with Action

Greetings:

This is a funny time of year. Many people have forgotten their goals from the first of the year but are feeling a sense of renewal and want to get back on track. Well here are five steps that will help you tap into the power of action and get back on track to reaching your goals.

The Five Keys to Success with Action

1. You need help.

It can be so difficult to do it on your own. Even the Loan Ranger had Tonto. Trust me I use to be the “I can do it myself” kind of gal. I usually got what I went after but at a price. No longer. I now belong to a MasterMind group, have a coach (sometimes more than one at a time) and belong to several on-line success groups. All of this has helped make it possible for me to get what I want faster, easier and with less effort. Don’t go it alone, get help in achieving what you want in life.

2. Accountability is key

I have no idea why but it is true, you are more likely to keep a promise made to someone else than to yourself. If you tell someone else you are going to do something you are ten times more likely to do it than if you just tell yourself. Having someone to be accountable to will increase your chances of success!

3. Do something towards your goal every day

Yes I know every day is a lot, trust me I hear it all the time. But I didn’t design the way life works, I just do my best to leverage it. If you want to be successful you need to do something every day towards your goals and dreams. The good news is it doesn’t have to be major, small steps will get you to where you want to go.

4. Get rid of your excuses

If you are not taking the actions necessary to achieve your goals and dreams, it is time to ask yourself, “What is getting in my way?” Most of the answers you get will be excuses. You are letting excuses steal your goals and dreams away from you. If you really want what you say you want you will figure out a way around the excuses and make it happen. Perhaps the question should be, “How bad do you really want it?”

5. The how is none of your business

Many people get stopped in their tracks because they focus on the “How.” The how is none of your business. What you need to focus on is what you want and why. Once you are crystal clear with the “what” and the “why” the “How” will reveal itself. So relax, the how isn’t your job, you simply need to focus on what it is you want and follow the inspired steps you will be shown.

Miracles don't always look like Miracles

Greetings:

One of the ezines I receive is from Marci Shimoff "Happy for No Reason." The most recent issue talked about tracking your Miracles and recognizing a miracle when they happen. I don't think that miracles don't happen in current times, I think we don't notice them.

I recently had an experience where I had miracle after miracle happen although I didn't realize it until later. I was driving down the road when I had a pain shoot through my left eye. There was no way to pull over so I just had to deal with it. I was able to remove my contact which immediately felt like someone put crushed glass in my eye. After a few moments my eye settled down and I was able to continue on my way and go to my meeting.

Several times in the past I have had an eye infection that felt very similar to what was going on so when I got home from my meeting I looked for the medication that I had used in the past. All I could find was the empty box it came in. I noticed it said "No Refills" on the box. I called my eye doctor to see if he would just call in a new prescription. My eye doctor was no longer working in the practice and since no doctor there had seen me before they wouldn't call in a prescription. So I had to physically go in and see one of the docs.

I was able to get in right away and when the dr. walked in he immediately said you don't have an eye infection. Of course I wanted to roll my eyes because I knew what was going on. Well, low and behold I didn't. What was actually happening was the veins in my cornea's (the left and right eye) were filling up with blood due to a lack of oxygen. This is a potentially dangerous situation. Luckily I caught it in time and the dr. was able to give me a prescription and set me up for further check-ups.

I want to point out several miracles that occurred. First I was able to keep the car on the road safely, was able to take my contact out which was a good thing because my eye immediately started getting much needed oxygen. Although it hurt at first it actually helped my eye. The next miracle was I didn't have the medication. If I had had the medication I would have used it and would have treated the wrong problem and could have made the situation much worse. The next miracle was my regular Dr. wasn't there which meant that I was forced to go in and actually see someone. By doing that I actually found out what the real problem was, with both of my eyes, and avoided a potentially serious situation.

While I was in the moment I actually never thought of any of what was going on as a miracle. I was rather put out that my eye was bothering me and I distinctly remember thinking what a bother and inconvenience this was. Now I realize I was being protected and guided through the process and because of the miracles that were happening I didn't end up with a serious problem.

A few days later I received Marci's ezine and it confirmed what I had realized. Miracles are happening all around us if we just take the time to notice. I love the idea to include writing down your miracles at the end of each day. When you begin to do this you will notice more and more miracles. Not that more and more miracles will begin to occur, you will just notice more and more of them as they are occurring.

Marci Shimoff - Happy For No Reason

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - Albert Einstein

A woman recently came up to me after a speech and told me that each night she writes down one miracle that happened that day. She's been doing this for the last three years and has an amazing collection of miracles.

While I often recommend that people keep a daily gratitude journal, I like this variation. It puts you in the mindset of looking for miracles.

This practice engages the reticular activating system, the part of the brain designed to bring things to your attention. Once you start consciously looking for miracles, they become easier and easier to find.

I decided to experiment with this practice myself.

Day one was last Wednesday, the final day of my trip to Panama. Early in the morning, the same wonderful man who'd driven me to my speeches during the three days I'd been in the country was taking me to the airport. Since my Spanish is limited, our conversations were as well. However, that morning my sister, who speaks beautifully fluent Spanish, was also in the car, and she translated for us.

I discovered that Guillermo was not only a driver but also a retired police officer who had been the bodyguard for two Panamanian presidents. It was reassuring to be escorted by such an experienced bodyguard.

After my long flight back to San Francisco, I took a taxi home from the airport and met yet another delightful driver. He had just moved a year ago to the U.S. from Russia, where he'd spent much of his life as a bodyguard for numerous Russian presidents.

Two airport rides in the same day—both with presidential bodyguards. Now what's the likelihood of that happening?

My "look for miracles" practice had begun with a bang.

Try it out for yourself over the next few weeks. Look for a miracle each day and record it.

What counts as a miracle?

According to one definition, "any amazing or wonderful occurrence." For me, a miracle is a synchronicity that feels as though there were a Higher Power at work.

Look for these three main types of miracles:

1. A Twilight Zone Event - This is the kind of unlikely occurrence that makes you sing the famous theme song "DOO-doo-DOO-doo, DOO-doo-DOO-doo." It knocks your socks off.

2 Serendipitous Support - This happens when you're searching for a specific piece of information, for instance, and an unrelated email shows up in your inbox with exactly the answer you need.

3. Cool Coincidence - Finding two presidential bodyguard/drivers the same day is certainly one. Another cool coincidence occurred when I saw my new happiness article in the current issue of Ladies Home Journal (May 2008 - on the stands now). I laughed in delight seeing the cover picture of Sally Field, because she had been one of my favorite stars when I was a child (I loved Gidget).

Look for daily miracles to create a sense of wonder and optimism in your life. Plus, it's fun!

Happy miracles,

Marci Shimoff

How much do you think you are worth

Greetings:

Every Monday Morning I have coffee with Cookie, virtual coffee that is. I subscribe to Coach Cookie Tuminello's ezine, Monday Morning Coffee with Cookie. It is one of my favorite ezines and when I don't get it I email Cookie wondering where it is. Cookie always shares great insight and wisdom. Her email is always great. Today however it was exceptional. And I just had to share it with you. It is a great question to ask, how much do you think you are worth. What you think creates your value. You put your own price tag on yourself. You are worth what you believe you are worth, no more and no less. Think about it!

Also I just loved the quote Cookie used from Wayne Dyer.

Monday Morning Coffee With Cookie

Quote:
"A bar of iron costs $5, made into horseshoes its worth is $12, made into needles its worth is $3500, made into balance springs for watches, its worth is $300,000. Your own value is determined also by what you are able to make of yourself." - Wayne Dyer

How much do you think you are you worth? How much success do you think you deserve? Are you worth a $5 bar of iron or a $300,000 balance spring for a fine watch? You are what you make of yourself. Herein lies the problem. We allow others to determine our self worth and how much success we should or should not have. If we don't put a high value on our own self worth, do you think anyone else will?

One of my first coaches and mentors used to tell me that everything I wanted to know about success and finding my way home (finding myself), could be learned from the movie, "The Wizard of Oz." At the time I didn't get it. Oh sure, I knew the story of Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz, but not in the sense that he was talking about. You have to realize I was pretty clueless and unconscious in those days. So clueless in fact that when my coach asked me to stop and check in with myself, I thought he meant the hotel we were staying at for the seminar he was giving. Like Dorothy, it took me a while to get the big "IT."

The "Big IT" for me was finally waking up and realizing that I had everything I needed to be successful right inside of me. I just needed to learn what the right tools were that would allow me to unlock my inner answers.

Your self worth and your success is defined and determined by YOU. It is an extension of who you are. You have to own it before you can sell it to someone else.

Let me give you an example. When I first hung out my coaching shingle, I agonized over how much to charge. I was so worried about attracting clients that I only charged $25 an hour. I shudder every time I think about how little I thought of myself. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Another example was that when I first started my business I treated it as a hobby, not a bonafide business. I would put someone else's needs ahead of my own in a heart beat. It wasn't until I started treating my business like a business that my business became a business.

This week, ask yourself this question: Are you a $5 bar of iron or a $300,000 balance spring for a fine watch? And if you have trouble figuring it out, just pretend you're Dorothy. Click your heels three times and give me a call. And if you're really tired of feeling like a $5 bar of iron and you want more success in your life, check out my People Pleaser No More System(TM). This 8 step by step system will help you create more productivity, more profit, and more power in your business right now. Remember your ultimate success starts and ends with you.
