I have spent a lot of time on the blog talking about what you can do to stay positive in these gloomy times. I also wrote an upcoming Day that is going to point out another activity you can do to help you stay positive. That is to stop talking about how bad things are! The more you talk about how challenging the times are the more challenging they will become. Talk about what you can do and not what is out of your control.
There is nothing you can do about what is going on in the world. However you can do something about what is going on in your world. If you are worried about your financial situation don’t talk to your friends, family and neighbors about it. Call your financial planner and set up an appointment. If you don’t have a financial planner find one. Or call your banker or other financial support person and talk over your options with him or her. Action will cure fear every time.
I had a client that was worried sick about her investments. She called me to talk it over. I recommended she talk to a financial planner and get recommendations on what she should do. She followed my advice and emailed me back that she felt 100 times better about the situation.
Don’t just talk about it do something about it. And if you are not going to do anything about the situation the least you can do is stop talking about it. Talking about the situation with people who can do nothing about it isn’t going to help you and actually it will just make things worse.
Wallace Wattles, author of the Science of Getting Rich, advised, “guard your speech. Never speak of yourself, your affairs, or of anything else in a discouraged or discouraging way. Never admit the possibility of failure or speak in a way that implies failure as a possibility. Never speak of the times as being hard or of business conditions as being doubtful. Times may be hard and business doubtful for those who are on the competitive plane, but they can never be so for you. You can create what you want, and you are above fear. When others are having hard times and poor business, you will find your greatest opportunities.” So go out and find your opportunities.
I would love to hear about what you are doing to stay positive in these challenging times.
Here’s to taking action
