Weight Is A Heavy Issue

Greetings:

Although this might seem like an odd topic for Self Care Month is actually is very appropriate. It is all about accepting yourself the way you are. When you can do that you create choice in what you want to do about it. You can also give up negative habits such as beating yourself up over whatever it is you are not happy with. Acceptance is the first step in changing your life.

I have struggled with my weight all my life. I am a human yo-yo. Weight is a heavy issue and a concern for many people. Oprah dedicated this month's "O" magazine to the subject. The problem with eating is that most of us can't stop. I read about breathairians, though, who claimed they existed on air and water. The thing about having food as a drug of choice is it is legal, easy to obtain and socially acceptable. Lets face it, no one, to my knowledge, was ever pulled over for eating and driving.

So what to do about this weight thing? Well, lose it. But, until you are ready to do something about the weight, do something about how you feel about the weight. Losing the weight is not going to solve your problems. Dealing with your self-esteem and learning to love yourself is a great way to begin to handle the weight. As you begin to feel better about yourself, you might decide to lose the weight, or not. It really is up to you what you do about your weight, but you don't have to wait to start feeling better about yourself and begin to love yourself just the way you are.

Most of us know what to do to lose weight. I could write a bestselling weight loss book. The problem is not the lack of knowledge; it is lack of willingness to do what it takes. There are also medical reasons why people can't lose weight. Weight brings with it many challenges, not the least are the effects it can have on self-esteem and self-love. Until you are ready to do something about the weight, decide to do something about how you feel about yourself and begin to practice extreme self-care. The better you feel on the inside, the more you will want to take care of yourself in many ways, which might include losing weight.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle
