Celebrate April
Greetings:
Oh my gosh there is a lot to celebrate in April. First of course there is April Fool's Day. Ever wonder where in the world that ever came from? Me too! So I did a little research on the Internet and this is what I found out.
April Fool's Day History

"The history of April Fool's Day or All Fool's Day is uncertain, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved from March 25 - April 1 (new year's week) to January 1.
Communication traveled slowly in those days and some people were only informed of the change several years later. Still others, who were more rebellious refused to acknowledge the change and continued to celebrate on the last day of the former celebration, April 1. These people were labeled "fools" by the general populace, were subject to ridicule and sent on "fool errands," sent invitations to nonexistent parties and had other practical jokes played upon them. The butts of these pranks became known as a "poisson d'avril" or "April fish" because a young naive fish is easily caught. In addition, one common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke."
If you want the rest of the story, and no fooling there is a lot more, go to April Fools R Us, an entire site dedicated to April 1st and practical jokes.
The next Big holiday is Buddy's Birthday. Okay it may only be a big Holiday in our house, but still pretty Big. Buddy is our adopted fur child that we rescued from United Yorkie Rescue two years ago. We actually don't know Buddy's birthday but decided to celebrate it on the day after we got him. I really didn't want Buddy's birthday to be on April 1st, I figured he had enough trauma in his life, so we celebrate on April 2nd. He doesn't seem to mind!
Okay so other big celebrations you might want to consider for the month:
National Dog Appreciation Month. I found this great article that tells how to take care of your pet in the event that you become ill or die. Something to think about! Our two dogs our in our Will.
Listenting Awareness Month (my personal favorite) There seems to be a tad bit of controversy about this holiday month. It appears that last month (March) was International Listening Month and April is just Listening Awareness Month - sponsored by Effective Listeners Association. I found a great article by Linda Eve Diamond on the 10 Rules of Listening!

National Fresh Celery Month - this is not to be confused with National Celery Month which is in March! To celebrate try my favorite celery recipe. Take several stalks of celery and spread with peanut butter! Eat and enjoy! You could also add a few raisens on top of the peanut butter! I have heard this called Ants on a Log, I just call it yummy.
National Welding Month (I will celebrate this one in honor of my Father) I was totally surprised when I couldn't find anything on National Welding Month. I do know it is sponsored by The American Welding Society. My father was a Welder so even without much to go on I will just celebrate the month in my own way! I guess I could weld something together.
Pets are Wonderful Month - This month is sponsored by the American Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However the people down in Palm Springs Florida have created their own Pets are Wonderful Month!
If you are wondering how I know about all these great days to celebrate let me tell you it isn't because I am researching all of them. I have a great book called Celebrate Today by John Kremer. It list all the special months and holidays throughout the year. I love the book becuase if you can't think of a reason to celebrate, this book will give you one.
If you would like to create and register your own special day or month visit Celebrate Today! National Event Registery! You too could have your own special day!
I hope you take advantage of one of these great holidays, or even several, to celebrate the month of April. Let me know how you celebrate April! Post your ideas and comments on the blog.
Here's to taking Action,
Rachelle
