Happy National Candy Corn Day

Greetings:

Today is National Candy Corn Day. Whenever I think of Candy Corn I think of my Mom who died three years ago, oddly enough on October 30th. I think she would be happy to know she died on the National Day of her favorite candy.

Although Candy Corn is not one of my favorite candies, in fact I don't eat it ever, I was interested to know a little history about it. According to the National Confectioners Association,

"Candy corn has been around for more than 100 years. George Renninger, an employee of the Wunderlee Candy Company, invented the popular confection in the 1880s and Wunderlee became the first to produce the candy. The Goelitz Candy Company (now Jelly Belly Candy Company) started producing the confection in 1900 and still produces candy corn today.

When candy corn first appeared, it was popular among farmers because of its agrarian look. The tri-color design was considered revolutionary and the public went crazy for it. Lack of machinery meant that candy corn was only made seasonally from March to November. Candy corn has remained unchanged for more than 100 years and is a favorite at Halloween."

What strikes me most about Candy Corn, or any invention is that someone had to have a vision or a dream in order to make it happen. Although today candy corn is made mostly by machines in the day the concept and process was revolutionary.

In order to create anything new you have to be willing to be revolutionary. You can't just stick with what you know you have to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Perhaps things that have never been tried before.

Happy Halloween

Here's to taking action
