Pay Attention

Greetings:
I recently re-learned a very important lesson,"Pay Attention." I rented a car and when the agent was checking the car out he did an inspection of the car. He discovered two dents in the car and made note of them. He then proceeded to tell me what would happen if I brought the car back with a dent or scratch on it that wasn't there before. As he was explaining how I would be liable for anything that happened to the car I began to get a foreboding feeling. In fact the feeling was so strong I felt like turning around and running.
Lesson one - Pay attention to your feelings. Don't ignore them or talk yourself out of them. If I would have paid attention to my feelings I would not have rented the car. I would have gotten out of there as soon as possible.
When I returned the car I was greeted by Jo, a different agent than I had the day before. He was busy trying to check people in and out and he was the only agent there. When he came back from looking at the car he told me he would have to charge me for a dent on the car that wasn't there the day before. Yep, my feelings were trying to warn me about this but I didn't listen. He went on to tell me there was nothing I could do about it, I was responsible. That was the policy!
Lesson two - pay attention when signing contracts or making agreements with people. If I had paid attention to the agent the day before I would have remembered that he clearly marked on the form that the dent I was now being blamed for was indeed there and had been noted.
When I got home I called the company and was able to resolve the issue. However I learned a valuable lesson from this. Intuition is a strong feeling. If for any reason you are not feeling good about doing something, don't do it. I don't care what it is, if your feeling the least bit uneasy about it, take that as a sign. Listen to your inner wisdom and follow it.
Also take responsibility for yourself and pay attention to what you are doing. Don't assume others are going to look out for you, they won't. Had the first guy not marked down the dents I would have been held responsible for them. That would have been an expensive lesson.
Here's to taking action,
Rachelle
