American Chocolate Week

I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance? Anonymous

Greetings:

I love chocolate and some how I have missed this amazing celebration - American Chocolate Week. It is always the third week of March and celebrates America's favorite flavor. In case you were wondering, it is sponsored by the Chocolate Manufactures Association! I guess we could have almost guessed that.

In case you need a reason to celebrate chocolate week - one could be your health. Yep come to find out chocolate is actually good for you. Well dark chocolate and in moderation. According to Chocolate.com:

"We've long since known that chocolate contains those healthy things called antioxidants, but now, researchers have discovered a long list of other potential health benefits.

A recent study in the Netherlands showed that eating the equivalent of one-third of a chocolate bar every day could lower blood pressure and also reduce the risk of death by up to 50%.

Chocolate also contains three chemicals that are good for your brain, and can make you feel better.

1. Anandamine: can extend your feelings of happiness and make you laugh more often.
2. Phenylethylamine: raises blood pressure and blood sugar levels just enough to make you more alert, and gives you that "love" feeling.
3. Theobromine: similar to caffeine. It causes relaxation, but also acts as a stimulant by increasing your brain activity."

In addition to American Chocolate week March 19th is National Chocolate Caramel Day
and March 24th is National Chocolate-Covered Raisin Day!

Part of having a great life is enjoying the simple pleasures, and what could be more simple than chocolate!

Happy National Chocolate Week!

Rachelle
