An alternative to winking

Greetings:

I am still a fan of winking however I have a new favorite way to signal people. The next time someone pulls in front of me in traffic I am going to flip them the peace sign. I love the story Alyson Stanfield shared...

"I'm not much of a winker and can see where it could get you in trouble. I prefer flashing the peace sign. One time, I accidentally cut in front of a car in Boulder and felt terrible and was waving my apologies to them. When they passed me, the guy just flashed me a peace sign. How cool is that? I've appropriated it ever since."

I must tell you that my friend Julie and I played what we are now calling the Winking Game at our favorite restaurant Sweet Tomatoes. I am afraid I didn't fair very well but Julie was amazing, and won the game. The object is to wink at as many people as you can and get them to wink back! The game is so fun because of the reactions of the people that you wink at.

Should you or shouldn't you Wink

Today's Day is about Winking. I think winking is great and lots of fun. One of my good friends and long time subscribers to 365 DOC Pat Morgan wrote me with this great story about winking.

"Fun! I've been a winker for years. It's a family trait - my Mom is a winker so learned from her. Then, later in high school, one of the older girls I looked up to used to wink at me to say hello across the room or when she was walking down the hall with her boyfriend between classes when we would pass. It was such a powerful acknowledgement for a little sophomore - from a cool Senior! Imagine that! It's a fun way to connect."

Not everyone agrees that winking is a good thing. My editor said he thought winking could get a man in trouble as it could be taken the wrong way.

Green up Colorado

Greetings:

Well since this is Earth Day I have been paying special attention to what I am reading and hearing about how to help green up the planet. My dear friend Karen VanCleve shared a tip in her latest Newsletter "The Spark" on how to recycle computers and print cartridges. The information is for those of us who live in the Denver Metro area, but I bet if you check there will be a similar organization in your area.

"Do you have a computer that is ready to go to the "great beyond," but you don't know what to do with it? Here in Colorado there's a great new non-profit that will take your unwanted computers and peripherals, and donate a portion of their receipts to charity, Green Up Denver. I learned printer cartridges by themselves take 175 to 300+ years to fully biodegrade. The contents of a monitor and the CPU are dangerous to our environment and never fully decompose. So take a moment to pass along this information to others who may also need an environmentally-friendly solution for their unwanted computer. "

Buddy's Birthday

Greetings:

This month we celebrated our rescued Yorkish (more ish than Yorkie) fur child's birthday. Actually we have no idea when Buddy's birthday is but everyone needs a birthday so we decided to celebrate his birthday on the day we adopted him. Buddy is around five years old and was very excited to celebrate his birthday, or maybe he was just excited to eat his birthday cookie and open presents.

One of our members, Judith, sent me a great website about traveling with your small dog. I have never taken the fur children on a trip but have always thought it would be fun. The website is http://www.mysmalldog.com/. Lots of fun info and cute pictures.

Another member, Steve, told me about Dogster a website devoted to dogs and their owners. It is a community website where people can share information about their beloved pet, exchange ideas and share tips.

If you don't have a dog, you can always borrow one, no kidding. Many local SPCA's and Animal Shelters allow people to take the dogs for walks and even home for the weekend. So if you don't want a full time pet, borrowing one might be ideal. Check with your local shelter.
