National Self Improvement Month

Greetings:
September is National Self Improvement Month. Whew. An exciting time and great opportunity to make those improvements you have been putting off.
I have challenged all my readers of 365 Days of Coaching to do one thing every day this month to improve their life! So that I am not one of those who simply give advice but actually take it as well, I will be participating in my own challenge. This month I will focus on my Health and my Heart (soul). Each day I will do something for my health and for my heart I will help someone else by doing a random act of kindness.
So that you don't think I simply made this month up, although I sure wish I would have thought of it, it actually is sponsored by the International Socieity of Friendship and Good Will. According to their website:
"The idea for an international organization to foster international understanding, better human relations, peace, friendship, and good will came to Dr. Stanley J. Drake on his 60th birthday, March 8, 1976, when he was contemplating retiring as president of Fort Lauderdale University. Dr. Drake discussed the kind of organization he envisaged with his internationally minded friends in the United States and corresponded with others in Europe, and two years later, on March 8. 1978, the International Society of Friendship and Good Will (ISFGW) came into existence."
Oddly enough there isn't a mention of Self Improvement Month on the website however according to the book Celebrate today! by John Kremer they are noted as the sponsors so we will go with it.
So here is the day that will be coming out! Gosh my editors don't even know I am posting this yet! So you are the first to see it.
Happy Self Improvement Month
September is Self Improvement Month. Although you could get so excited about celebrating the month that you decide to change everything about your life, I would caution against it. Instead of trying to change everything and risk burnout and disappointment, during the festive season decide to focus on just one area of your life. For the next thirty days begin to improve just one area by doing just one thing differently each day. In a month you will be very surprised at how much you have improved.
Daily action is the key to permanent life long change. It is the small steps taken over time that will make the biggest difference in your life. During this holiday season, Self Improvement Month, focus on one area of your life and just one thing you could do every day to improve it. Perhaps you will take a twenty-minute walk every day, meditate or have silence every day, read something inspiring and motivating every day (actually you already do that so pick another one) or anything that is going to improve the quality of your life.
I have decided to focus on two things (okay so I am a bit of an over achiever) this month. My health will be my number one focus and I will be doing something every day to improve that. The other area is my heart (as in my spirit and soul) and I plan on doing one act of random kindness for the next 30 days. Doing something every day for the next thirty days in these two areas of my life will mean that at the end of the month I will have focused my time and energy on improvement and I know that something good and everlasting will come out of this.
So here is the challenge – for the next thirty days do one thing that will improve your life every day! Just pick an area and focus on it. You will be amazed at the results, I promise!
