Are you 100% real?

I saw an advertisement for a product. Truthfully I can't remember what it was for, but the tag line struck me. It read "100% real." I wonder if we were a product could we claim the same thing? Are we really who we are or are we only 90%, 80% or less of who we are and some percent of who we think other people want us to be.

Being 100% is, in my opinion, the most difficult challenge we have as humans. We are pulled in many different directions to be many different things. Society, our family, our boss, and even friends have expectations that many not be in alignment with who we truly are.

Being 100% real also requires that we take the time to get to know ourselves. I can remember saying jokingly that I didn't want to find myself because I may not like what I found. Being 100% real requires that we accept ourselves for who we are, the good, the bad, and the ugly. This isn't always easy and it can take a lifetime to get to know who we are and love ourselves with the warts and all.

Coaching

We are all born 100% real and then spend the rest of our lives decreasing that number. The goal in my mind is to get back to the essence of who we are and be as close to 100% as possible. This takes effort, time, and compassion. Compassion comes in because we need to accept every aspect of who we are, not just the good part.

Being 100% is a process and I am not sure anyone is 100% a 100% of the time. The goal isn't for perfection, but is more about the process of becoming 100%. I find that journaling and meditation support me in getting closer to understanding myself and being 100% real. Also simply asking myself, "What do I want? What would make me happy? Is this what is best for me?" There was a time I didn't stop to ask myself these questions and therefore I didn't take the time to figure out if what I was doing was about me or someone or something else. Take the time to get to know yourself and be willing to make the commitment to develop a relationship with yourself. That is the only way we can be 100% who we are.
