=============================================
Sometimes we just need to be left alone.
Having quiet time is important to rejuvenate and also to
think and create. I once worked with a manager that would
put a "Do not disturb" sign on his office door
whenever he was working on a special project or just needed
some time. He found it so effective that he gave everyone
in his organization "Do not disturb" signs. The
rule in the office was if a "Do not disturb" sign
was hanging up, the person was not to be disturbed. It was
a great way to create a space where people felt comfortable
and allowed to have time to think without being interrupted.
If hanging up a sign isn't going to stop
someone in the office, or even someone at home, from disturbing
you, go some place where they can't find you. Everyone needs
a special place where they can be alone with their thoughts,
a good book, or a special project. Even though I work at
home, I still find it challenging to put up a "Do not
disturb" sign. When I need to get away from the ringing
phone, barking dogs, and e-mail, I go to the library or
the coffee shop. I can have a couple hours of piece and
quiet and simply be. When I return to my home office, I
am relaxed and refreshed.
Coaching
Everyone needs to be left alone from time
to time. Try using a "Do not disturb" sign and
give yourself a break from interruptions. If a sign won't
work, remove yourself from your hectic environment. Even
if it is just a fifteen-minute walk or a quick latte at
the coffee shop, some peace and quiet will support you in
staying balanced.
Just fifteen minutes of "Do not Disturb"
time a day will make a big difference. Schedule it in and
make sure you keep your appointment with yourself. Having
some time just to think and reflect will leave you refreshed
and renewed.
Are you ready for some "Do not disturb"
time?
Daily Success Formula
Do not disturb = Time
to think and reflect
Quotes
"Learn to pause or nothing worthwhile
will catch up to you." Doug King
"Quiet minds can't be perplexed or
frightened, but go on in fortune or misfortune at their
own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm."
Robert Louis Stevenson
