When Opportunity Knocks
Be At The Door

=============================================

One sure way to take advantage of opportunity when it comes knocking is to be at the door. We can't expect opportunity to come find us. We must go out and seek it. Putting ourselves in the path of opportunity guarantees that we will have a chance to take advantage of the opportunities that come our way.

My youngest Yorkshire Terrier, Surrobbie, knows this lesson well. She knows that opportunity happens when one is prepared. Wherever there is food, Surrobbie is there. She hangs out in the kitchen just in case something falls to the floor. If a bag rustles, she is there. If someone is snacking, Surrobbie is in range. She knows that the chances of getting a little something extra are greater if she makes herself available. And she is right. She often gets a little something extra just because she is there.

Muffassa, my older Yorkie, has a different approach. He lets opportunity come to him. He waits for someone to bring him a little something extra, which happens, but not often. He ends up with the leftovers and not the select morsels that Surrobbie is there to grab.

The moral of this story is opportunity doesn't often come looking for us. We have to be prepared for opportunity and then take advantage of it when it shows up. We can wait for opportunity to find us, but our luck will be much greater if we seek out opportunity.

Coaching

As the saying goes, "Luck is when opportunity meets preparedness." If we are prepared for opportunity, we have a greater chance of being able to seize the moment. Placing ourselves in opportunity's way will guarantee that we will have more opportunity. We can't expect that opportunity will always come and find us. We must seek out and find opportunity. By creating more chances for opportunity to find us, we create more possibilities. We increase our chances of having an occasion occur that will lead us to where we want to go.

Don't wait for opportunity to find you. Put yourself in the path of opportunity. Be prepared and seize the moment.

Where can you find opportunity today?
