Life Is Like Making Donuts

One of my favorite memories from my childhood is making donuts with my grandmother. I recently decided to make my own batch of donuts for the first time. As I went through the process, I realized what a great metaphor donut making was for life.

It takes time to make donuts. It doesn't happen quickly. The first set of ingredients are mixed together and then allowed to rise. After they have raised, the next set of ingredients are added and allowed to rise. The next step in the process is to roll out the dough, cut it into the shapes of donuts and once again allow the dough to rise. The last step is to cook the donuts in hot oil, not too hot, but hot enough to brown them.

No step can be skipped. All the ingredients must be included. Nothing can be left out or skimped on. There is no rushing the process. The dough needs time.

Like life, there is a process and there are steps to be taken. We sometimes wish we could find a shortcut to success. However, just like donut making, there are no shortcuts. Each step must be taken and each ingredient needs to be added. Then we must give the donuts, just like success, time. I wanted to hurry the donuts, but they did what they needed to do in their own time not mine. Much like success, it often works on a different time schedule than we would like. We want it to happen quickly, but success, like donuts, takes time.

By following the steps and working the process, I was able to produce delicious donuts. Success happens much the same way. When we allow the process to work, take the steps we need to take, and give our efforts sufficient time, we produce delicious success.

Success, like donuts, takes time. We cannot skip a step or try to rush the process. We must remember that success is a process. Success doesn't just happen. We must take the steps and give the process time. We can create success, but we need to be willing to do what it takes. That sometimes means being patient.
